Welcome to Anacortes Dermatology

Welcome to Anacortes Dermatology. We are the only independent, locally owned and operated dermatology practice in Skagit County.
We offer both Telehealth (virtual) visits and in-person appointments.

If you are searching for a dermatologist near Anacortes, you have arrived at the right place. On this website you will not find stock photos of professional models with perfect skin and overemotional smiles.  Rather, we are a real dermatology practice for hard-working families. We provide unparalleled and customized treatments for medical, surgical, and aesthetic dermatology in a practical no-frills manner. We treat patients of all ages. Our office is conveniently located in downtown Anacortes (the 'gateway' to the San Juan Islands), just a short drive from Mount Vernon, Burlington, Whidbey Island, and Camano Island.  We provide medical and surgical treatment for skin disorders of the hair and nails. Along with traditional surgical treatments, we offer Mohs Micrographic Surgery, as well as non-invasive, and minimally invasive, treatments for skin cancer. On the aesthetic side, we perform laser hair removal, laser treatments for rosacea, blood vessels, sun spots, chemical peels, Intense Pulsed Light, and surgical correction of eyelid aging.  Prepare yourself for a highly individualized experience. Imagine having 'concierge' style office visits, where they are thorough, and your doctor actually listens to your concerns.  Our clinic hours vary throughout the week but we are closed on Fridays.  Please call to schedule your appointment with a board-certified dermatologist in Anacortes, WA.

Experience counts

Our dermatologist, Wirt (Andy) Hines Ph.D., M.D., has experience in nearly every aspect of medical, surgical, and aesthetic treatment of skin disorders.  Dr. Hines is frequently asked to educate our residents on disorders of the skin (click here for a sample article in the Anacortes American), and actively engages our community through volunteer work.  Dr. Hines instructs the Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNP's) in dermatology for the University in Seattle.

Dr. Hines is a past President of the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Skagit County, which is the largest grassroots organization in the USA to provide support and education for those with mental illness and their families.  Dr. Hines was also on the Advisory Board of Directors for Compass Health and the PACT Program (Program for Assertive Community Treatment).  Compass Health is the #1 provider for mental health in Skagit County.

Please click on the links above for details on our cosmetic treatments such as laser hair removal, photofacials, chemical peels, and treatment of acne scarring.  Dr. Hines brings his skills and experience to patients in Skagit County. Please see the CV section for biographical information and further details on his career.

Sustainability

Single-use plastic waste is a rampant problem in medicine, contributing to approximately 1% of all the landfill space in the United States.  Sadly, even the packaging of these single-use items is plastic (i.e. plastic wrapped in more plastic). The average hysterectomy produces over 20 pounds of waste in plastic, packaging, drapes, and so on (not including bio-waste). Surgical drapes (the covering normally used for sterile surgeries) are actually large sheets of plastic polypropylene which simulates fabric.  The problem of plastic waste destroying our environment is getting worse, because single-use plastics have a lower cost and higher convenience factor, with more clinical instruments and supplies being marked as “single use”. We are doing our part to reduce plastic waste by substituting natural cotton fibers for our surgical drapes, sterile packaging, and other reuse substitutes when possible.  These are thoroughly washed, sanitized, and sterilized by autoclave.  We estimate avoiding disposal of 5-6 large trash bags of plastic waste every week because of these changes.
